Adelaide

I want to...

Adelaide capital city of South Australia and the fifth largest Australian capital city. Adelaide was Established in 1836 by Colonel William Light, one of city’s founding fathers.

The city of Adelaide is surrounded by the hills on the east and over 70 kilometres of coastline on the west. The perfect destination for city dwellers who occasionally like to kick back and relax at the beach. There’s a reason Adelaide is dubbed ‘the 20-minute city’. You never have to travel more than 20 mins from point to point in the city – the airport, city centre and beaches can all be accessed within 20 minutes of driving in your camper, pretty cool huh!

There are many things to do and see in Adelaide city so fear not, you’ll never be left with an empty itinerary. The most popular attractions (and must-do’s in our opinion) are Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide Botanical Gardens, Cleland Conservation Park and of course, a trek up to Mount Lofty.

Mount Lofty is only a short 20 min drive from the city centre. It’s worth taking a drive all the way to the top so you can see breathtaking views of the city. There is plenty of parking spaces too, so a super convenient trip in the camper.

If you feel like cooking up a storm in your campervan, be sure to head to the central markets in the city to pick up your groceries as the markets are much cheaper than the supermarkets.

As well as there being an abundance of nature, wildlife, beaches and things to do in Adelaide, it has some pretty cool history too. The Clipper Ship, Housed at the dock in Port Adelaide, is the world’s oldest clipper ship. Around 250,000 Australians can trace their ancestry back to the 889 or so passengers who arrived in Adelaide on its deck (1864 – 1887).

Barossa Valley - Campervan Hire Sydney - Campervan Rental Shop Once you’ve had your city fix and want to move on, take your campervan to explore the lush, green Adelaide Hills or the vibrant Barossa valley. South Australia is home to some of the world’s most famous wines so it’s well worth making the trip to try some of the local world renowned produce, it would be rude not to! The Barossa Valley also holds a Farmers Market, where you can get your hands on fresh produce like handmade breads, specialty pies, and seasonal fruits and tarts.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can take your campervan to the 540 million-year-old landscape known as the Flinders Ranges. If you want to go even further afield, the area north of the Flinders Ranges and the Eyre Peninsula and the stretches into the vast, empty spaces of SA’s outback – which makes up about 70% of the state! It’s important to plan your trip before you travel, you must always be prepared when venturing into the outback – ask us for more information on how to be prepared if you are unsure!

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate with cool to mild winters which see around 9 days of rainfall per month. During the winter, the daily average temperature can drop as low as 8°C with daily highs of 15 to 16°C. The summers are warm and dry, with only 2 to 3 days of rainfall per month. Adelaide is the driest of the Australian capital cities and the past two decades have been far warmer than usual, with the past 8 years seeing over 40°C degrees every summer.
